Who I am
I'm Neil Davidson. I have worked on private cinemas since 2006: designing them, calibrating them, teaching other installers, and making the screens they use.
My calibration tutorials have been on AVForums since 2009. I developed the original home cinema design training that the industry's trade associations teach today. Since 2016 I have also made projection screens, as one of the owners of Display Technologies.
What the company is for
Davidson Horizon Ltd is the company I work through. It provides my consulting to the companies I direct: SRND Group, Cinema Acoustic Treatment Systems and Light Walls. It also pays for the training and the software.
Over the years I built calculators for my own projects: where the speakers go, what the room does to the bass, how bright the picture will be. In 2017 I put them online as Cinema Tools, free to use and tied to no brand. The same questions came back in every room, so I wrote Cinema Expert to answer them. Lighting Expert and Lighting Tools do the same for lighting. Probata checks the finished room against its design.
My other businesses
I own C-ATS, a complete acoustic treatment system in a 50 mm depth. I am one of the owners of Display Technologies, which makes projection screens, of SRND Group, and of Light Walls.
Davidson Horizon is separate from all of them. The calculators recommend no brand, and the courses are written for the room, not for a product.
